How much does the exam cost?

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exams cost $200 (all Primary and Post Primary).

How long is the exam?

You are given 4 hours total.

  • Tutorial (18 minutes)
  • Exam (3 hours and 30 minutes)
  • Survey (10 minutes)

How many questions are on the ARRT Radiography Exam?

There are 220 questions on the exam

  • 200 questions that are scored
  • 20 unscored, pilot questions

What types of questions should I expect?

Exams will the following types of question formats (which can be found here as well: TEST QUESTION FORMATS ON ARRT-ADMINISTERED EXAMS):

  • Standard Multiple-Choice (standard, single answer choice)
  • Combined Response (prompt provides numerical list of responses, and answers choices will have combinations of correct responses, but you will still pick one answer choice)
  • Negatively Worded (NOT and EXCEPT type questions with single answer choice)
  • Select Multiple (multiple answer choices will be correct and you will be asked to select more than one)
  • Illustration (picture or illustration will have labeled areas corresponding to answer choices)
  • Hot Area (picture or illustration will have highlighted area corresponding to question prompt)
  • Video (a video will play without sound with the options to play, pause, stop, and loop, and the entire video must be watched to move on)

How is the exam scored?

Results are based on total number of correct answers. There are NO deductions for wrong answers, so make sure to answer everything. Since exam questions may vary, scores are scaled for difficutly, accordingly.

How do I find ARRT exam test dates?

You will have go through Prometric see and select a date.

How many times can I take a specific ARRT exam?

You can take an exam up to 3 times in 3 years. Refer to the ARRT website for details.

What are the best ways to study for the ARRT exams?

The most time-effective thing you can do is WORK PRACTICE PROBLEMS over and over. Those who have passed the various ARRT exam, academia, and the best test prep providers all suggest this should be your primary focus.

Are the ARRT exams open book?

They are not open book.
